About

I live in San Diego in the community of Ocean Beach. This blog is mostly about sharing my adventures in urban, small space gardening, cooking, and community. I live about 1 1/2 blocks from the beach in a small, adorable cottage which I call “The Cabin”. Every time I come home, I smile, sigh and say outloud, “HI HOUSE”!

There are 6 cottages in our complex. The flowerbeds were all dry, dusty, and lifeless. I began to add compost and plant a few flowers. The landlord said he would pay me to keep up the small bit of yard work. At first none of the other residents cared about their adjacent flower beds, so I began to add to them all. Each season brought further expansion, and the introduction of veggies and edibles into the picture. The grass between my cottage and the one in front of me was almost nonexistent. The ground was rock hard, but I eventually loosened it all up, added compost, and planted a garden. Some of the neighbors became interested, so now we do a fair amount of gardening together. We ripped out more ratty grass in the front yards, and filled the space with flowers and vegetables!

Our little neighborhood complex is very friendly.  We socialize, confer, and share ideas and food. I feel lucky and thankful!
